Flagship on Strøget: What retail cleaning requires when HAY calls
Premium-tier design shops have their own rules. Here's what they require — and what we've learned cleaning them.

On this page
Strøget isn't just a pedestrian street — it's Scandinavia's most exposed retail stretch. A shop here has 30,000 footfall per day, international clients, and an expectation of perfect visual impression from the first second. Here's what cleaning a Strøget flagship requires.
The time window is tight
The shop typically closes at 7 or 8pm. It opens again at 10am. Our window: 8pm to 6am. Some evenings with events or VIP visits: 9pm to 5am. We can't delay — a Strøget shop never opens with signs about delay. It isn't an option. So we come, and we're done on time. Every time.
Display surfaces: the product, not the frame
- Glass surfaces: squeegee and microfibre, never splashed — streaks are visible across the store
- Brass (door handles, lighting): specialist cloths, no acid-based cleaners
- Oak table with wax finish: only dry cloths or lightly damp, never water and soap
- Marble and terrazzo: dry + pH-neutral cloth, never aggressive
- Leather: dry cloth, periodic leather conditioner (coordinated with the store)
- Designer floors (moulinet, poured concrete): protocol per store — manufacturer's requirements
Luxury goods on shelves: the sacred rule
Unless explicitly agreed, we touch nothing for sale. Furniture on the floor we wipe by agreement. Small items (books, ceramics, jewellery) standing freely, we don't touch. We clean around them. If the store wants them lifted and dusted under, it's a specific protocol agreed in advance.
Staff relations: we're invisible
Shop staff never meet us. That's the intention. Morning staff arrive at 9:30am, we're out by 6. Evening staff leave at 7pm, we come at 8pm. Our team accesses via security protocol, we activate the alarm when we leave, and there's no overlap. The first time staff meet us is the first time the store opens.
What does it cost?
A Strøget flagship with 6-7 daily cleanings typically lands 7,500-12,000 DKK/month incl. VAT (VAT deductible for CVR businesses). Price depends on m², store design, and specific requirements. We come by for 20 minutes, work it through, and send a fixed monthly quote.
Frequently asked questions
- Do you have clear security protocols?
- Yes. Keybox, alarm code, surveillance — we follow the store's own protocol fully. CVR, insurance, and documented procedure. On request we sign NDA.
- Can you handle lookbook shoots and launch days?
- Yes. We come at 6am after a shoot to reset the space. Or we stand by during the shoot and clean immediately after. Coordinated with the store.
- What about showrooms and pop-ups?
- Yes. We have experience with pop-up format and temporary setups. Short contracts fit into the fixed-price model.
- How fast can we start?
- Under a week typically. Retail is one of the fastest categories to onboard — rhythm is standardised, and the protocol is written down day one.
- Do you work with larger retail chains?
- We're a boutique company of five. We take 1-3 shops at a time. For larger chains we refer to colleagues in the industry — we'd rather say no than do it poorly.
